The theory of transformative educational processes represents an attempt to reformulate the classical concept of education so that it meets the conditions of contemporary societies. Education is not understood here as a process of harmonious development, but rather as a crisis-laden event in which the relationship of people to the world and to themselves undergoes fundamental change because they are confronted with experiences for which their established patterns of orientation are insufficient. The lecture will present this theory and discuss its significance for growing up under conditions of a migration society using a literary example.

Hans-Christoph Kolleris Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Education of the University of Hamburg. His areas of work are educational theory and qualitative educational research, as well as the theory and empirical study of transformative educational processes.
